The Benefits of a Duvet Day!

It’s Christmas time again and while everyone else is gearing up for some leisure time students everywhere are stressing over looming deadlines, and tripping over that stack of books to be read before the new term.

So I am suggesting all the students who read this enjoy at least 1 duvet day.  More if you can spare it; but at least 1.

Relaxing, forgetting everything for 1 day will do you the power of good. Watching a crappy film, reading something for fun! Or just lazing in bed.   All these past times will help to de-stress and bring it all back into perspective.

I’ve taken a few well-earned days off, and am relaxing watching Star Wars right through. What are you guys up to?

Happy holidays everyone – next year is going to be a good one!  For me it’s an ending and a beginning – what could be more exciting than that?  And for you all I wish you peace, harmony and happiness.

Pop My Mind

Thought I would tell you about a great new concept website which helps artist to gain inspiration.  Pop My Mind is a Suffolk based website which offers artists a place to exhibit their work, and to help other artists to find inspiration for their art.

The site covers all mediums, from painting, to poetry and everything in between.   The other day I wrote a poem off the back of a piece of artwork titled ‘Shredded’.  My poem was short and needs a bit of tarting up but mainly it was really good fun.

You need to join and receive a code to include your own art, and I am not sure if there is a small joining fee, but why not check it out and have a go at creating something new from a ‘pop’ and see what happens!

W.H.Auden

This is my favourite poem – and I want to dedicate it to my lovely auntie who passed away last month at age 49. Forever in my thoughts and always in my heart.

TWO SONGS FOR HEDLI ANDERSON

in
Selected Poems of W.H. Auden
by W. H. Auden

I
Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crêpe bows round the white necks of the public
doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

Alan the Cat Update

On 23rd November I submitted a story to Liz Nice at the EADT Newspaper. Last week I got a response from her, where she thanked me for the story and asked for some photos of my cat.  And here he is, he is just the loveliest cat ever and I am more than proud that he might be in the newspaper!

Week 9 Work Experience

So this week was all about getting to know my new job.  I was shown how to choose a new post to go on the Facebook page.  I chose a couple of subjects and published them.  It was not too difficult but writing around the posts was something I will have to get used to.

I wrote a blog post too.  It was the top Top 5 Hanging Basket Plants  for the spring.  It was a fun article to write and this means I now have 2 articles on the website already, and I will be adding to Facebook and twitter on a daily basis.

I also heard back from the editor of the East Anglian Daily Times.  I sent her a story a month ago and she came back to me and asked if I have any pictures.  I sent a couple of pics of the cat.  So my story will go on pets corner in the near future.  How cool is that!

So I am published in print and online now.  This is a good day!

I’ve Got a New Job!

IMG_2728.JPG

Am very pleased with myself, got a lovely new job at my fantastic work experience.  Part time until i finish uni, then full time…

Looking after the social media and writing blogs, creating content for the websites.  It is a job I wanted and am going to enjoy the degree job before I have even got the degree!!

Week 8 Phew!

So I am now part of the furniture at T&M’s E-Commerce Dept. and even the grumpy fellas who ignored me in the beginning say ‘Morning’ to me!  I’m like Whaaaa!

So now I feel like I am settled in and could hang around the office, writing little  bits of SEO, doing some blogging, writing articles for the social media pages we have, and I only have 2 days left!  No what am I gonna do?

It has been such an interesting time, and I have learnt so so much it is incredible.  I wouldn’t say it is a place for me to be a loud sod, but it is a place where I can be my-quiet introvert-self, have a good job and enjoy working for a decent company that seems to try and look after their staff.

I work upstairs in the call centre and it is very different, it is loud, lively and there are some fantastic friends there.  I am lucky to have worked there but I won’t be staying at the call centre after my degree is finished.  It drives me mad with moaning customers who you can never please, who seem to think they deserve compensation for having a damaged plant!

Well its been busy, I wrote quite a few SEO paragraphs and can see a marked improvement, before I wrote too much and if I remember Sue said ‘pepper it’.  Cant believe she has gone on maternity leave.  I bought her a card and chocs cos she has been one of the nicest people I have ever met, she was so kind to me, made me feel so welcome.  She is a top girl and I know she will be sadly missed for a year…

TSU & Finishing Uni

I have joined a new social media site TSU a site that values original content, not just shared stuff from others or pretty pictures with inspiring words and birthday wishes to everyone you’ve ever friend’d!  Don’t get me wrong I love Facebook as much as the next blogger but I wanted something new and fresh, a place to put my pictures and thoughts with people I don’t know.  To also look and enjoy their pictures, comments, and hashtags. Twitter is great but it’s not like this site.

TSU has about 2 million followers so its not tini-tiny!  My favourite thing is the fantastic and exotic pictures of the places people live.  Oh my word, there are some beautiful places in this world, I can’t wait to explore some of them.

It’s not just looking at pretty pictures of original content, you can earn money too.  If I’m honest I haven’t read the terms & conditions to making money, but I am sure when I have a few minutes I will.

Although I am so snowed under atm with essays and writing tasks, copywriting and living to do that I barely have time to go to work!  (Oh I wish).   But when uni is finished I can browse magazines, read books that don’t have 2 titles and 6 editors to cite every time you want to use a word or two.  It’s going to be great.

I really want to go on holiday, to somewhere hot.  But it’s gotta be cultural so we can get out of the heat in a nice friendly museum or old church, art gallery or botanical gardens.  Anything that can entertain while we bum about in the sunshine.  Barcelona sounds like a great place.  How the hell did I get onto this?

Blogging is fun cos you can just keep writing!!
